Biography and research interests

Prof. Gaiping Zhang is a consulting expert of the Life Science Department of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, a member of the 5th National Agricultural GMO Committee, a member of the 12th, 13th and 14th CPPCC National Committee, and served as the president of Henan Agricultural University.

Prof. Zhang is a renowned animal immunologist, who made outstanding contributions in rapid detection test strip technology and vaccine research. He pioneered immunological rapid test strip detection technology in China and was the first to propose the academic concept of immune potential and super vaccine. He has devoted himself to the research of the next generation vaccines which could be safe, efficient, precise and micro-quantity. He also worked on developing novel drugs for treating human immunodeficiency diseases.

In 2001, he was awarded the National Outstanding Youth Fund, and in 2007, he was awarded the first batch of Central Plains Scholars. In 2014, he won the Nomination Award for the Top Ten National Outstanding Scientific and Technological Workers and the award for National Outstanding Scientific and Technological Worker. In 2016, he won the first Sheng Tongsheng Outstanding Achievement Award. In 2017, he won the first National Innovation Award. In 2020, he was awarded the National Advanced Individual in Anti-epidemic.

中国工程院院士。国家自然科学基金委员会生命科学部咨询专家、第五届国家农业转基因生物委员会委员，全国第十二届、第十三届、十四届政协委员，曾任河南农业大学校长。

中国著名的动物免疫学家，在快速检测试纸技术、新型疫苗研究领域做出了卓越贡献！开辟了免疫学快速试纸检测技术，在学术界首次提出免疫潜力和超级疫苗概念，致力于安全、高效、微量、精准的新一代疫苗研究，为人免疫缺陷病药物研发提供了新思路、新方法。

2001年获得国家杰出青年基金，2007年获评首批中原学者。2014年荣获十佳全国优秀科技工作者提名奖、全国优秀科技工作者，2016年荣获首届盛彤笙杰出成就奖，2017年荣获首届全国争先创新奖状，2020年获全国抗疫先进个人。
