Abstract:
Join Dr. Ya-Jou Chen to discuss the unique microbial communities of hot springs! While this paper decribes the hot springs in New Zealand, Dr. Chen is leading her own expeditions to hot springs in China.
Come prepared having read the paper and enjoy the discussion. If you have questions, contact Dr. Chen. ya-jou.chen@dukekunshan.edu.cn
BIO:
As an environmental microbiologist, my journey bridges laboratory research and real-world environments. During my PhD at Monash University, I delved into marine sandy sediments, uncovering unconventional biogeochemical cycles. In my postdoc at McGill University, I am focused on bioremediation for potential Arctic oil spills, solidifying my commitment to utilizing microbes to address environmental challenges. This path leads me to combine microbiology and geochemistry, venturing into new interdisciplinary frontiers. Through fieldwork, I study diverse ecosystems, with my recent exploration centered on hot springs.
